Is Your Garbage Disposal Not Grinding?

Watch this step-by-step video to help you fix your garbage disposal.

1

Check the garbage disposal is plugged in

Don’t forget some garbage disposals may be hard-wired. These will not have a plug.

2

Verify the GFI breaker hasn’t tripped

GFI breakers are often located in the kitchen or a nearby bathroom.

3

See if there are any tripped breakers or blown fuses in the breaker box

Make sure to reset any tripped circuit breakers. If there are blown fuses, they will need to be replaced.

4

Check for leaks

Determine if any leaks are present. If there are, the garbage disposal may need to be replaced.

5

Dislodge garbage disposal

Use an Allen key to dislodge the garbage disposal. To do this, insert the Allen key into the designated spot and turn backwards. Turn until key can move freely in both directions.

6

Turn on garbage disposal

Turn on the garbage disposal to make sure it’s working properly and use as normal.

Quick Tip: Never pour grease or oil down the drain. It will cause clogs and blockages in pipes.
