Is Your Dishwasher Not Draining?
Watch this step-by-step video to help you fix your dishwasher if it is not draining.
Run the Garbage Disposal – an air gap in a connecting hose or a full disposal may cause drainage problems for the dishwasher.
If your garbage disposal is new, ensure that the drain plug has been removed by the installer. Failure to remove the drain plug can prevent the dishwasher from draining since the dishwasher drain hose is often routed to the disposal.
Check for Blockages – Examine the bottom of the dishwasher to ensure an item hasn’t fallen from the rack blocking the flow of water to the drain.
Check the Filter – Most dishwashers have a filter on the inside at the bottom of the appliance. Ensure that the filter isn’t clogged. If it is, you may need to clean or even replace the filter.
Inspect the Drain Hose – Ensure that there are no kinks or clogs in the drain hose that connect the sink to the disposal. If a clog is detected you can remove the hose and run a wire hanger through the hose to remove the clog. When reconnecting, make sure the hose seal is tight.
Quick Tip: Always be sure to load your dishwasher correctly. Check the manufacturer’s instructions or owner’s manual for proper loading instructions.
